Analysis of 5 Common Failures of Laser Marking Machines

When problems arise with laser marking machines, if they cannot be resolved promptly, it may affect the delivery time of the products.

Although the repair of laser marking machines can be troublesome, the underlying principles are relatively straightforward.

Many issues can be resolved independently without the need for professional technical personnel. Here are the five common failures of laser marking machines.

1. The marking pattern on the laser marking machine is partially unclear

Solution:

Check if the thickness of the embossing plate is even, whether the embossing pressure is too low, the temperature too low, or the machine precision has decreased.

Key Points of Process Control:

The thickness error of the embossing plate should be controlled within 0.001mm, and the hardness should be maintained at 230-280N/mm. Since the holograph is embossed by applying certain pressure to the embossing roller, if the hardness of the embossing plate is insufficient, the internal stress during the embossing process may cause the embossing plate to deform or damage.

2. The marking pattern on the laser marking machine is dim and lacks luster

Solution:

Check whether the heating temperature is too low or the embossing pressure has decreased.

Key Points of Process Control:

The set embossing pressure should consider factors such as embossing temperature, types of holographic materials, or softening points of coating layers, and conditions of the embossing plate.

If the pressure is too high, the embossing plate is likely to be damaged or the holographic material may be ruined. If the pressure is too low, the embossed image may be unclear or incomplete.

For the round-to-round method, the initial pressure of the pressure rollers on both sides is generally around 0.08MPa.

After the embossing starts, the pressure of the pressure rollers is gradually increased to 0.30-0.50MPa. The embossing speed can be adjusted according to the quality of the imprint, machine performance, and other considerations.

3. The marking pattern on the laser marking machine is turning white

Solution:

Check whether the embossing speed is too slow or the embossing temperature too high.

4. The marking film of the laser marking machine is sticking to the plate

Cause:

If the hot press temperature exceeds the degradation temperature, increased adhesive properties of the coating will cause it to stick to the plate, causing the film to wrap around the holographic imprinting roller.

Solution:

Lower the hot press temperature.

5. The marking pattern of the laser marking machine is clear in some areas and blurred in others

Cause:

The temperature distribution of the hot press device is uneven, or the embossing plate is not flat.
