What Is Sandblasting Technology?

Many stainless steel diamond treatments use stainless steel sandblasting technology. What is sandblasting technology?

Sandblasting technology uses compressed air as power to form the most adjusted spray, which will spray the material at high speed onto the surface of the workpiece that needs to be treated, thereby:

① Improving the mechanical properties of the workpiece surface;

② Making the surface of the workpiece clean and having different roughness;

③ Changing the appearance or shape of the outer surface of the workpiece surface. Due to the impact and cutting effect of the abrasive on the workpiece surface, the fatigue resistance is improved and the adhesion between the coating and sandblasting is increased, making the coating more durable and the surface leveling and decorative effect better.

Characteristics of Stainless Steel Sandblasting Technology

Compared with other cleaning methods, the stainless steel sandblasting technology used for processing has the following characteristics:

  • Sandblasting treatment is the most thorough, universal, and efficient cleaning method, with the highest speed of operation.
  • Sandblasting treatment can select any roughness between different levels, while other methods cannot achieve this. Manual polishing can create a matte surface but is too slow, and chemical solvent cleaning is not conducive to coating adhesion on smooth surfaces.

Applications of Stainless Steel Sandblasting Technology

Stainless steel sandblasting technology has the following applications:

  • Removing burrs and beautifying the surface of machined parts.
    Sandblasting can remove tiny burrs on the surface of workpieces, making them smoother and removing potential hazards, thus improving the level of the workpieces. In addition, sandblasting can create small rounded corners at the junction of the workpiece surface, making it look more beautiful and precise.
  • Improving the mechanical properties of parts.
    After sandblasting treatment, the mechanical parts can produce a uniformly fine concave-convex surface (basic pattern) on the surface of the workpiece, which can store lubricants, improve lubrication conditions, reduce noise, and extend the service life of the machinery.
  • Surface polishing.
  • Pre-treatment of workpieces for coating and bonding.
    Sandblasting can remove all kinds of impurities such as rust on the surface of the workpiece and establish a very important basic pattern (usually called matte surface). By changing different particle sizes of abrasives, it can achieve different degrees of roughness, greatly improving the adhesion between the workpiece and the coating or plating, or making the bonding more firm and of higher quality.
  • Cleaning and polishing castings and forgings, and workpieces after heat treatment.
    Sandblasting can remove all impurities (such as oxide scales and stains) on the surface of castings and forgings and workpieces after heat treatment, and polish the surface of the workpiece to improve its smoothness, thus beautifying the workpiece. Sandblasting can also make the workpiece exhibit a uniform metal color, making the appearance of the workpiece more beautiful, and achieving the purpose of beautifying and decorating.
